Redevelopment of Basila Frocks

Historic Hub

Minutes from Downtown

The Basila Frocks Co. was originally established in 1929 by the Basila family to house garment manufacturers and commercial shops. Located in the historic Prospect Hill Neighborhood and within the boundaries of the WestEnd Hope in Action Neighborhood Association, the building has over the years evolved from a mixed-use commercial space to a vibrant focal point of culture, music, and entertainment. In 2018 the Westside Development Corporation in collaboration with Dan Markson purchased the building with plans to restore this Westside gem to its original glory.

Although the untimely death of Mr. Markson has put this project on hold since his passing in May 2019, WDC has decided to move forward and see through that his vision in the potential of Basila Frocks is fulfilled. Dan Markson’s commitment to the San Antonio community is evident through his body of work. He was a champion for taking on difficult projects for the right reasons and Basila Frocks was no exception.

Dan Markson envisioned that the redevelopment of Basila Frocks would be a catalyst for positive change in the Westside. WDC is currently in search for the ideal partner, a firm who understands and has experience with projects like Basila Frocks, appreciates that this project is about enriching our Westside Community, and can ultimately lend their resources and expertise in structuring and executing a mutually beneficial development partnership.

2021 Update

The Westside Development Corporation (WDC) has selected the DreamOn Group to discuss a potential partnership on the renovation of the Basila Frocks building located at 502 N. Zarzamora – a historically-significant Westside landmark. The DreamOn Group, founded by Julissa Carielo and Rene Garcia, is a local development and property management firm that, through its association with Tejas Premier Building Contractors, Inc., also specializes in construction. On Wednesday, the WDC Board of Directors will consider a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the DreamOn Group, to enter into further discussions and analysis toward a development partnership agreement.
