Public Art San Antonio

Public Art San Antonio

In 1996, the City founded its public art program with the goal of establishing a lasting process that supports the tradition of public art services and enhancements that contribute so much to its community's cultural and historical sense of place. The program has undergone many transitions since its inception, one of the more recent being a re-launch of the program under the name Public Art San Antonio (PASA) and the formation of a Mayor-appointed Public Art Board. Additionally, in 2010 PASA entered into a shared-services agreement between the City's Capital Improvement Management Services department and the Office of Cultural Affairs. This approach allows PASA to manage public art projects associated with the 2007-2012 citywide Bond Program while expanding its efforts in areas such as temporary exhibits, outreach, education, and master planning. In partnership with CIMS and OCA, the staff carries out public art initiatives for all departments within the City of San Antonio, as well as coordination efforts with outside partners and agencies including TxDOT, Bexar County, the San Antonio River Foundation, and many others.

San Antonio's success has led to an increase in opportunities for public art that will ultimately reinforce and improve our cultural identity, stimulate our economy, and bring neighbors together.
